It all started with a session held by Henning Grothe at UXcamp, I forgot the year, 2010 probably. Named gadget porn - everybody who wanted to could present his gadgets, telling why they were useful or of good quality or simply beautiful or whatever.
Then there was this question on the FatDUX mailinglist, some journalist searching for the absolute gadget piece one must have these days or the best mobile app or whatever. So I wrote a little gadget porn piece (not really explicit, so continue reading even if you're not yet 18):
"When I haven't got my smartphone with me I feel like an amputee with phantom pain of a lost limb. In my case that is htc desire hd.
Mostly it's important because of the personalized realtime communication: SMS, phone, jabber, twitter etc but also for some apps - foursquare (which helps me orientating for good places), munzee and geocaching (for the fun in strolling around), keeping my passwords (keepass), taking pictures and instantly sharing them on twitter via picplz or the dropbox, keeping notes in the droidwiki or with evernote, always having a calendar and all my contacts with me, drawing and sharing mindmaps with mindjet, listening to music (the included htc in-ears proved to deliver the best sound so far even with other gadgets), looking for public transportation or trains, navigating with Google Maps, finding hostels or hotels around for good price, using it as USB-stick and being able to put up a mobile WiFi-hotspot either for friends or for my Macbook Air 11".
Which is the second gadget and is about to replace my quadcore-desktop-monster. Together with that one comes a Western Digital MyPassport wrapped in a waterproof and shockproof shell with a capacity of 1 terabyte.
As a real girl I mostly have a torch, Fenix TK15. And often I have my digital camera with me, Olympus µ tough, waterproof and shockproof for the really hard Berlin urban adventures under every weather conditions. It has pretty good optics, sufficient optical zoom and 14 Megapixels, which fits for most situations to take good pictures. And some waterproof pen to be able to write on everything, inka write anywhere.
Most of the time one will see my GPS (Garmin Oregon 550) attached to my belt when out for geocaching.
Sometimes I also take my Roter Faden Taschenbegleiter with me: it's the best gadget I know so far to organize all those slips of paper one stumbles upon in everyday-life and containing some sheets and booklet for paper-drawings or notes.
So far for my gadget-porn-strip :D"
